Baking soda in the garden: environmentally friendly pesticide

We can use the baking soda in the house and around the house in many ways: as an environmentally friendly cleaner in the bathroom and kitchen , or as a stain remover , we now show you how to benefit from the garden as an environmentally friendly pesticide.

The number of active substances has been expanded to 18 now. "Simple materials", one of these well-known baking soda, which is currently marketed as a food supplement, but has proven to have a plant protection effect and does not pose a risk to the environment or human health under given conditions of use.

CONDITIONS FOR USE OF BAKING SODA

Sodium bicarbonate is a powder or aqueous solution that can be used as a fungicide and mohair agent.
In vegetables, berries, ornamental plants, under field and in driven conditions, powdery mildew (Podosphaera spp., Oidium spp.) Must be dispensed at 300-600 l per hectare from 0.33-1% (33-100 g / 10 l of water) of baking soda. Treatments can be made 1-8 times, with a minimum of 10 days of spray intervals, from the two-leaf stage of development to full ripening. Up to 500 liters of the 0.9% and 1% solution can be released per hectare.

DIFFERENT CULTURES SHOW DIFFERENT SENSITIVITY TO BAKING SODA

To avoid adverse effects, test spraying is recommended before use.
Grape powder ( Erysiphe necator ) in the vine can be dispensed with 2.5-5.0 kg of baking soda per hectare using 200-600 l of spray liquid. The concentration of the spray liquid can be at least 0.42% up to 2%. Treatments can be made 1-8 times, with a minimum of 10 days of spraying intervals, from ripening of the second leaf of grapes to consumption until maturity. The dose and the amount of spray liquid should be adjusted to the weight of the foliage. A solution that is more concentrated at 1% can be harmful to the plant.
In apple, 2.5-5.0 kg of baking soda per hectare can be dispensed against venturi scab ( Venturia inaequalis ) using 500-1000 l of spray liquid (dissolved in 25-50 g / 100 m25-10 l of water). The concentration of the spray liquid may be at least 0.5% up to 1%. Treatments can be made 1-8 times with the introduction of minimum 10-day spray intervals from the extension of the first leaves of the apple to the development of coloring characteristic of the variety. The dose and the amount of spray liquid should be adjusted to the weight of the foliage. The 1% solution may be harmful to plants.
Fruit (orange, cherry, cherry, apple, papaya) storage diseases (blue and green mold Penicillium italicum, P. digitatum ) can be used with a 1-4% solution of baking soda. Harvested fruits should be treated with dipping into the solution or spraying the surface 1-2 times, with a minimum of 10 days between treatments.

IT CAN BE USED IN POWDER FORM FOR THE FOLLOWING ORNAMENTAL PLANTS

For potted plants, it can be used to kill mosses (eg Lunularia cruciata ) colonies and spores . After the cultivation of the cultivated plants, the baking soda powder is directly sprayed onto the mossy soil during the period from late summer (autumn and winter). Use is only recommended in driven conditions up to 1.2 kg / 100 m 2 .
To avoid damaging the ornamental plants, first try a small area.
You can also use:
  • garden tools, pots, garden furniture
  • to keep snails away
  • to measure soil pH
  • to clean our hands
  • sprayed into a vegetable waste bin to keep odors away
